John Perriam farms Bendigo Station in Central Otago, part of a family group linked to retail, and was a prime mover in the formation of Merino New Zealand, which he chaired throughout its formative years until 2001.
In 1993, John
established an international partnership with Reda SPA
, a vertically integrated fabric manufacturer in Italy; Lempriere, leading wool exporters of Australia; and Bendigo Station, with the purchase of properties in Waitaki Valley and McKenzie Basin.
has recently structured the establishment of one of Central Otago's leading winegrowing sub-regions at Bendigo, and has become a mentor for the Ice House business incubator, which supports the growth of small and medium-sized businesses in New Zealand.
gained national and international media attention with his
hermit shaggy merino, which has since become a New Zealand charity icon.
John was a founding director of the Wool Industry Network Limited and helped to establish the Strong Wool Strategy: Model for Change - Realising the Potential of New Zealand Strong Wool, December 2007.
He was also a director of Wool Grower Holdings Limited.
John has authored the best selling book "Dust to Gold" and received a Queen's Honour in 2001, being appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to the wool industry.
