In a letter to Borough Administrator/Acting Municipal Clerk John Pavlik, Tom DeFluri, the schools business administrator, wrote that a meeting with the Borough Council would not be needed to fix a problem with teacher staffing.West Paterson's Mayor and Council appointed former Hardwick Township Mayor John Pavlik as the Borough Administrator/Acting Municipal Clerk.Pavlik is the current Borough Administrator in the Borough of Watchung."John Pavlik is just what West Paterson needs to move forward," said Council President Dominick DiDomenico."The qualification that really impressed me was that John worked for the State of New Jersey in the Department of Community Affairs: Division of Local Government Services. His experience there during the Whitman administration gives him great contacts. He knows who to call with a question, or when we need to make progress and the state can help," said Councilwoman Tina Gatti. The new Administrator will act as the Municipal Clerk until he receives his RMC (Registered Municipal Clerk) certificate.Pavlik has a vast educational background in government having obtained a Masters Degree in Administrative Sciences form Fairleigh Dickinson University, a B.S. in Business Administration from Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn., and he completed post graduate studies in Economics at FDU."John Pavlik is certainly a qualified individual, and we should all be proud that he will be the next full-time head of our government in West Paterson.

John Pavlik, administrator and clerk for West Paterson, will start as Borough Clerk Mary Ricker prepares to retire after 24 years with Kinnelon. Pavlik will earn $105,000 a year.Municipal clerks usually serve as secretaries to the governing body, while administrators oversee day-to-day operations. But Ricker wore many hats: Besides being the clerk, she was the borough's finance officer and den mother, said J. Eric Nederfield, a councilman since 1996."She in a sense was an unrecognized administrator, even though she did all the work," he said. Before working in West Paterson, Pavlik, 54, was borough administrator in Watchung in Somerset County and a systems analyst and community services officer for the Division of Local Government Services in Trenton. He also served as West Paterson's registrar. He lives in the Warren County town of Hardwick."I am very proud to step into a position of a professional who has worked for 25 years, who has worked with a mayor of 35 years," he said."It's a quarter of a century of tremendous teamwork."
