John Pavlik, administrator and clerk for West Paterson, will start as Borough Clerk Mary Ricker prepares to retire after 24 years with Kinnelon.

Pavlik will earn $105,000 a year.
Municipal clerks usually serve as secretaries to the governing body, while administrators oversee day-to-day operations. But Ricker wore many hats: Besides being the clerk, she was the borough's finance officer and den mother, said J. Eric Nederfield, a councilman since 1996.
"She in a sense was an unrecognized administrator, even though she did all the work," he said.
Before working in West Paterson, Pavlik, 54, was borough administrator in Watchung in Somerset County and a systems analyst and community services officer for the Division of Local Government Services in Trenton.
He also served as West Paterson's registrar.
He lives in the Warren County town of Hardwick.
"I am very proud to step into a position of a professional who has worked for 25 years, who has worked with a mayor of 35 years," he said."It's a quarter of a century of tremendous teamwork."
