About John Noltner
John Noltner is a freelance photographer based in Minneapolis, specializing in images of people for editorial, corporate and advertising clients.John works out of his 2,000 square foot studio in the Minneapolis warehouse district, or on location in the Midwest or around the world.
Projects last year took him to corporate boardrooms, and down the Mississippi on river barges.He photographed in Honduran neighborhoods devastated by Hurricane Mitch, the Hill Tribe region of Northern Thailand, and TB clinics for migrant laborers in central Florida.
After graduating in 1990 with a BA in Journalism, John took a job as a staff photographer at a small daily newspaper in Wisconsin.A 1992 move to Minneapolis led to a shooting position at a catalog studio which he left in 1995 to pursue his own clients.
John's award-winning photos have been published in numerous regional and national magazines, including: Computerworld, Disability Today, E-the Environmental Magazine, Fast Company, Firehouse Journal, Forbes, Midwest Living, Minnesota Technology, Outdoor Action, Parade, Smithsonian, Successful Farming, Ventures, and The World and I.

A Peace of My Mind is a documentary project about peace by Minneapoilis photographer John Noltner. People from a wide range of backgrounds are asked to talk about peace...what it means to them, how they work toward it in their lives, and the obstacles they encounter along the way. The interviews are combined with black & white portraits and showcased on a new website.

Events Otter Tail County Historical Society [cached]

Twin Cities photographer John Noltner will present his new documentary exhibit, "A Peace of My Mind" with a free and open to the public reception from 4-7 p.m. on November 5 at the Otter Tail County Historical Society.

"A Peace of My Mind" is a project that combines art and storytelling to explore the meaning of peace. Since early 2009, Noltner has interviewed 52 individuals about their thoughts on peace, including Holocaust survivors, a Buddhist minister, a homeless man, and many others. He asked what peace means to them, what they do to work towards it in their lives and what obstacles they encounter along the way.
The exhibit showcases black and white portraits of each of the subjects as well as excerpts from their interviews. Full audio from the interviews can be downloaded from the project's website, Visitors are encouraged to download these interviews to their MP3 players and listen to them as they view the photographs.
"To often we are asked to look at what separates us in life," Noltner said. "This project asks us to look at what brings us together."
Noltner will host a free and open-to-the-public opening night reception at the Otter Tail County Historical Society.
