Last February, pastor John Monroe of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Linton and about a dozen other people told the ABC they did not want the license granted, arguing that Wal-Mart is a family store and there are several other places in Linton where liquor can be purchased.
A license was granted earlier this year, but an appeal was soon filed by Monroe, since the state ABC board had failed to notify The Linton Daily Citizen of the hearing.

Pastor John Monroe of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Linton attended the first hearing to protest.
"Wal-Mart is a family store, with kids running around there all the time," Monroe contended."It was one of the only stores in town selling groceries that didn't sell alcoholic beverages."
Monroe also argued that there are "14 to 16 outlets in Linton where liquor is sold" and that he doesn't believe any more are needed.
Monroe brought up the fact that the hearing wasn't advertised in the Linton Daily Citizen to the forefront, contending that not many people on the west side of Greene County knew about the hearing.Monroe also filed an appeal with the ABC in Indianapolis.
