At Thursday's ceremony at Harmony Hall, in commemoration of both Kinston's 250th anniversary and the day Kinston changed its name, John Marston, president of the historical association, accepted two tea services emblemized with the anniversary logo. "I so graciously accept not one but two tea services on behalf of the Lenoir County Historical Association," Marston said.

John Marston is or has been on nearly every board in the community and has been chairman or president of many.He has served on the Lenoir County Committee of 100 Executive Board; the Pride of Kinston, serving two terms as its president; the Community Foundation Board; the Pride Property Development Committee, serving as its chairman; the Boy Scouts of America Executive Board-East Carolina Council; and the Lenoir Community College Foundation Board, serving as its president.He was the first recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Volunteer Service Award in 1983 and he was Kinston's Citizen of the Year in 2007.John also was awarded "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine" by Governor James E. Holshouser Jr., and the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Services by Governor James B. Hunt Jr."Lenoir Community College is the lifeline for this community," John said."I've seen firsthand what LCC has done for industry.
