Among her many theater works were Lents Passage, about the suicide of her childhood rabbi; Last Earthwords for Awhile, about her grandmother's journey to a terrifying New World; The Book of Questions, about a 17th c. false Messiah; Anima's Listening, based on a 1940 daybook found at an estate sale, and brother/sister (with John Marron) about the conflicted love between siblings.She studied and performed theater and dance with Meredith Monk, Ping Chong, Spalding Gray, Lanny Harrison and Barbara Dilley.She has an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from San Francisco State University, and a B.A. in Literature from Reed College in Portland, Oregon.
For the past decade she
has curated public programs for the Los Angeles Public Library
, including the popular ALOUD at Central Library series, "Words in the World" literary series and "Soundings" performance series.She
was awarded a 2002-2003 California Arts Council Fellowship for Creative Nonfiction
.From 1999-2003 she was Senior Creative Advisor for the Sundance Institute's Arts Writing Program.She is a member of PEN Center USA West.
