About Us [cached]

The Bible is therefore completely true, sufficient, beneficial, joy-producing, powerful and without error in the original manuscripts. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Peter 1:3, Psalm 19:7-11, John 15:11)

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, and is therefore both fully God and fully man (Mark 2:1-12, John 1:1&14, 8:58, 20:28, Romans 9:5). He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin (Matthew 1:20, Luke 1:34-35). We believe in his sinless life, his miracles, and his teaching (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, Acts 2:22). We believe that Jesus was crucified on the cross and died as the substitute to pay the penalty for our sin (Matthew 20:28, Romans 5:6-8, Hebrews 9:28, Galatians 3:13), that he physically rose from the dead, and that he ascended into heaven (Matthew 28:1-7, Acts 1:9-11, 2:23-24, 5:30, Romans 1:4, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
The Holy Spirit We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin, and by his powerful work regenerates spiritually dead sinners, awakening them to repentance and faith. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every person who believes in Jesus and empowers them to live a godly life. (John 14:16-17, 16:8, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Galatians 5:22-25)
We believe that Jesus is the only way of salvation and that salvation is found in no one else. (John 3:14-16, John 5:24, Romans 3:21-26, Romans 4:5, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Galatians 2:21, Ephesians 2:4-10, James 1:14-15, 1 John 1:9, John 14:6, Acts 4:12)

John Luhmann

Rev. Luhmann earned his B.A. in History and Biblical and Theological Studies from Wheaton College (1994), and his M.Div. in Church History from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (1997). He has served as a pastor in Bismarck, North Dakota, and currently serves as Senior Pastor at South Hills Evangelical Church MT.

The speaker was John Luhmann, the head pastor at South Hills Evangelical Church. He took classes from some of the country's greatest preachers including John Piper and Mike Bullmore. He obtained a Masters of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical School.

That's because, after a brief introduction highlighting recent attacks on the direction of his church, Luhmann put his money where his mouth was. The church had just finished a four month adventure through the book of James and to cap it off, Luhmann did what every preacher strives to do, he let the Bible preach for itself. He didn't give an emotional appeal to fire up congregants to with a summary of the book. He merely recited the letter of James, from memory, and let the words of the Bible move with a power uninhibited by human intellect.
For half an hour, he recited the book, all five chapters, and all 107 verses. He didn't recite it as if it was being read, but preached it as James would have intended it to be preached to his brothers in Christ.
He gave breath to the spirit, flesh to the words. The human touch to James' letter made certain passages sting as if cutting to the bone. "You adulterous people! Luhmann said with all seriousness and pastoral concern in his voice, "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?"
