"She hit the back of her head," Shady Side Academy coach John Landreth recalled.
"We're still limiting her environment and still being careful -- it's a learning process every day," said Landreth. He explained that although Groff is able to practice, the path to competition is still ongoing. Nonetheless, Groff's return has been a spark to her team. "It's been kind of a catalyst to our team," Landreth said. "That's a great time," Landreth said. "That takes a lot of stress off," Landreth said. The Indians swam a meet at Knoch on Jan. 10, an 88-80 victory for the girls' team. With Groff back in the Shady Side entourage, the girls' team has 22 members with no divers on the roster. Landreth is excited for the remainder of the season's meets, especially WPIALs. "We can fill different events; we're a very good sized team," Landreth said.

"We have a relay team that has broken two pool records in meets this year," said Shady Side Academy coach John Landreth, referring to home meets against Kiski School and Deer Lakes.
"We won all three relay races and set two meet records at last year's WPIAL meet," Landreth said. "We have to win at least two relay races to have a chance in the team competition." Shady Side Academy has won seven consecutive WPIAL Class AA titles. Landreth, now in his 17th season, would like to see this year's squad continue the streak, but realizes it will be no easy task. "Hampton has a great team this year and Indiana is always strong," Landreth said. "Swimming is so time-based that some years it's easy to predict what's going to happen at the WPIAL championships just by looking at the top times recorded in each event," Landreth said. "All three relay teams are different than the ones that won WPIAL titles last year, but two of the four in each event are back," Landreth said. "David Faulk has posted the fastest time in the WPIAL [in Class AA]in two events," Landreth said. "We have 20 swimmers and one diver on our team," Landreth said.

John Landreth, Shady Side's head coach, cited several examples of swimmers outperforming their seeds to help the team."It's a little bit of a cliche to say this, but when you only win by one point, everybody makes a contribution," Landreth said."You can't say enough about Trevor," Landreth said.Landreth thinks all of his swimmers are ready to turn in top performances."We've had pretty good time drops and I think everyone is ready," he said.
