It is my privilege this evening to present the Brookhaven Little Theater's wonderful JOHN LANDRESS
AWARD, named for the wonderful JOHN LANDRESS.
If you ever work with Mr. Landress
on any play or project, you will understand my repeated use of the word "wonderful".
They believed that it was John Landress
who, as a founding member of BLT and drama instructor at Copiah Lincoln Community College
, was the driving force behind all things BLT.
From the boardroom to the stage, whether he was behind the scenes or designing and building the set, organizing prop management or the business of the organization itself, Mr. Landress was and is the consummate director and MEMBER of Brookhaven Little Theater.
directed when the director did literally EVERYTHING - no such thing as producer or stage director or publicity chairman.
designed and built sets when plays were performed in borrowed auditoriums using sets that had to be put up absolutely no sooner than the weekend before opening night and taken down the next day after closing.
has been dedicated to BLT
since its beginning and continues to be a major catalyst for ALL of our activities.
is a wonderful, creative, talented, gentle, brilliant man with whom it has been my privilege to work under many times, and I would like to ask him now to stand and be recognized. (he couldn't make it to the party because of a death in his
It was in this man's image that the John Landress award was created to honor BLT
members who emulate the energy and dedication he
has always exhibited toward BLT.
The selection committee consists of the 5 most recent living recipients plus Mr. Landress
