John Goltz, LPTA, Site Coordinator at HealthSouth in Athens working with a patientAfter 11 years at HealthSouth in Athens, Site Coordinator John Goltz seems to have found the right combination of treatment and inspiration. "It is our belief that every patient deserves quality one-on-one care," Goltz said."I played two years of college baseball at Calhoun Community College," Goltz said."I had hopes to transfer to a four-year baseball program, but I injured my back and had to 'retire' from baseball."He also had to undergo physical therapy. After finishing his studies at Calhoun, Goltz transferred to University of Alabama Birmingham and earned a bachelor's degree in fitness, then got certified as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. He accepted a job with a physical therapy clinic in Huntsville that HealthSouth later purchased. While Goltz's 11-year career with HealthSouth has shined, it hasn't been his only focus. He's also been married for 11 years to Christina South; they have a son, 2-year-old Colin, and another child due in March. Between his work and family life, there hasn't been much time for other things in Goltz's life. "Before my son was born, I coached soccer for two years in Decatur and one year in Huntsville," Goltz said."But now I have just enough time to work and spend time with my family." That devotion is John Goltz's key to success.Whether he's at home with his family or at the clinic with patients, he cares. "One reward is that I get to help people through a difficult period in their lives," Goltz said."They count on me to get them better."HealthSouth is at 1802 E, Hwy 72 East, 256-771-0066, in Athens, 805 11th Street SE, 256-351-1100, in Decatur, 4725 Whitesburg Drive, Suite 201, 256-880-7776 in Huntsville and 7736 Highway 20 W, Suite 3, 256-430-0178 in Madison.Hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon., Wed., Fri., and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tue. and Thur.John Goltz may be e-mailed at john.goltz@healthsouth.com or visit the website at www.healthsouth.com.
