John R. Gibbs to serve first-of-its-kind school dedicated to teaching the technical, psychological and social aspects of information technology
INDIANAPOLIS (Oct.9, 2001) - John R. Gibbs, co-founder and executive vice president of Interactive Intelligence Inc. (Nasdaq: ININ), was appointed on September 21, 2001 as chairman of the Dean's Advisory Council for Indiana University's School of Informatics, IU's first new school in 28 years. With programs at IU's Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses, the School of Informatics' mission is to educate students and conduct research in advanced information science and technology with an emphasis on its human applications and interdisciplinary skills.The School is the first-of-its-kind in the United States. As first chairman of the Council, Gibbs' responsibilities include chairing Council meetings, staffing and helping set objectives for the working committees, helping to define the role and initiatives of the Council and representing the School of Informatics within the community. Gibbs co-founded software development company, Interactive Intelligence in October 1994 and has served as the company's executive vice president since January 1995.Prior to Interactive Intelligence, Gibbs was a management consultant, serving entrepreneurial and emerging companies in Indiana.He holds a B.S. degree in business economics and public policy from IU. Indiana's Higher Education Commission approved IU's School of Informatics in November 1999.Since admissions began in the fall of 2000, the School has enrolled nearly 600 students.IU's School of Informatics offers undergraduate degrees in Informatics and New Media, and graduate degrees in Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Chemical Informatics, Human Computer Interaction, and Media Arts and Sciences.
