Dr. John Frykman- Drugs

Dr. Frykman holds a B. A. in sociology, a Masters in divinity, and a Ph. D. in clinical psychology. He was the founding director of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic, and has taught at the National Dug Abuse Training Center on topics such as the nature of drugs, lifestyles of substance abusers, and approaches to treatment, education, and prevention. He has worked extensively overseas, teaching and consulting, and since 1971, has served as the president of the Cypress Institute. He has taught classes at U.C. Berkeley on drugs and addiction and was the lead psychologist in the addiction program at Ross Hospital in Marin County. He has been on the staff of the ICP since 2001.

John Frykman, MDiv, PhD

John Frykman, MDiv, PhD, is a California licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, founder of Cypress Institute, an ordained Lutheran minister, and organizer of the Drug Treatment Program at the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic. He studied privately with Dr. Erickson from 1969 - 1979, observing, sharing, and discussing cases with Milton. He has done teaching, consulting, training, and supervising in 27 states and 16 countries. In California, he served as Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Case Manager at Ross Hospital CD Unit (Marin County) and at Ohloff Intensive Outpatient Services (San Francisco). He continues his consulting work and private practice of Brief Solution Focused psychotherapy. Jay Haley, after an afternoon of viewing and responding to three videos of John working with clients said, "John, I have never seen anyone who works more like Milton than you."
