They were ringing the doorbell at St. Mary's Church all the time," said John Feit, a community liaison at St. Vincent de Paul.
At first, the needy were given vouchers to eat at a diner, and the society would pick up the tab.Then, on Nov. 20, members started the charity dining hall in an empty diner with $400.
"We never serve soup," Feit
said, "because we don't want to be a soup kitchen."
