"It time to put Love in action" 1 John
The "Do the Hard Thing" teaching series is based on the lives of King David and his children in 1 and 2 Samuel. John Datema, MCC's Family Life Minister, will kick of the series by speaking on the importance of hard work: "Do Your Chores".
David was a shepherd boy who became a king. He
did many hard things - successfully. He
killed lions and giants. When challenged he
ran instead of demanding his
place at the kings table. He
made peace instead of seeking vengeance. When he
was older he
had young sons - some who did hard things well and some who failed. In these eight weeks you will learn about the hard things you must choose to do if you will live a life that is pleasing to your friends, your family, and to your God.
Revelation: Part 2 - Ron Peters - This is a chapter by chapter, in depth study of the last half of Revelation. You'll learn how John
revealed God's message while hiding during a time of persecution.
We have asked John Datema to come to Meridian Christian Church as our new Family Life Minister. John will be officially beginning his ministry with us Monday, November 23.
As the Family Life Minister, John will oversee the Children's ministry and the Youth Ministry at MCC. His role will be to work with and direct the workers and staff (including our Youth Minister), build up our ministry teams, communicate the vision, and develop the program of these ministries.
Initially, (due to current financial restraints) the position will be part-time (30 hours/week) until our 2009-10 budget is fully funded. The combined building/general budget need is $10,000 weekly.
Once we are receiving this amount it will cover the new mortgage payment and the Family Life Minister full-time position. In the meantime, John's wife Sandi will be working at Rainbow Homes and John
will be doing some work for the Home Schooling Association
in Grand Rapids to help supplement their income. They will be moving to Okemos in November and are looking forward to working with the MCC Children's Ministry and Family Ministry.
John and Sandi have six children: Alison, Julie, EmmaLee, Laci, Jack and Jesse. John and Sandi have been in full-time ministry since John graduated from Great Lakes Christian College in 1997. He served as Youth Minister for Lighthouse Church in Grand Haven, Michigan from 1997-2000. For the past nine years he has been the Family Minister at Woodview Christian Church in Wyoming, MI. He and Sandi are home schooling their children and are passionate about building strong families, teaching children about God, and helping young people make lifelong commitments to Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Full Disclosure: John Datema is Rick Stacy's son-in-law. When John submitted his application for the position in June, Rick withdrew himself from the selection process at that time. The Search Team was led by Ray Fleming and included Bryan Tollenaar, Sheri Crandell, and Ron and Suzanne Peters. The final decision was made by Ray and the rest of the elders, and Jamie Wetzel.
