GOVERNOR ENGLER APPOINTS COURTRIGHT
TO 24TH DISTRICT COURT IN WAYNE COUNTY
Governor Engler Announced the Appointment of John Courtright
to the 24th Judicial District Court in Wayne County.Courtright
Will be filling The Vacancy Created by Honorable Michael Russell.John Courtright
is the type of person that inspires pride and respect among those who know him.He
is one of those rare individuals who has overcome The limitations of his
Physical challenges by working hard, Serving his
community and remaining optimistic.In So doing, he
has become a sucessful attorney who is a role model to all.Both Judges and Lawers in the Allen Park community attest to his
many Attributes including the fact that he
is bright, diligent, patient and Courteous.These Qualities will no doubt serve him well as a district court judge Said Governor Engler.
, of Allen Park, graduated from Allen Park High School in 1978He
Education at the University of San Francisco Where he
studied in the St. Ignatius Institute, a specialized liberal Arts Program requiring extensive study in Literature, Pilosophy, theology and History.He
Also Was a member of The University of San Francisco Coordination Comittee, a Committe designed to study the accessibility for the handicapped in relation to federal Regulations, and was a University of San Francisco Senatro at Large, advocating students' needs and concerns to the administration.
While in college, Mr. Courtright Received the Father Dunne Endowed Scholarship Award, based on his
Academic excellence and Service to the university community.He
graduated with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy 1982.Mr. Courtright
went on to obtain his
Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska in 1986.Mr. Courtright
served breifly in the State Appellate Defenders Office and was the manager of the Wayne County Circuit Court Docket until proceeding into private Practice in 1987.He
has handled Several high profile juvinile cases, including the first case in the nation where the defendant was charged and tried on a lifetime poisoning offense involving the substance GHB, the date rape Drug.He
practices law with his
wife Felicia, in a firm that specializes in criminal, probate, juvinile and family law, and is an Assistant City Attorney with the City of Allen Park.Mr. Courtright
is a member and past-president of The Great Lakes Center for Independant Living, which provides independant living skills, training, and education with the ultimate goal of employment for persons developmental disabilities.He
is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan's Open Justice Comissions Disabilities Committee, the Downriver Bar Association and the Recorder's Court Bar Association.He
is an active member of ST. Francis Cabrini church in Allen Park.
Courtright's appointment runs through January 1, 2003.He
will have to run for election in November, 2002 in order to serve for a full term.
