It -- like the former site was -- is operated by John "Buck" Cargal,of Fort Worth.Cargal ceased operation of the former site a week after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.The original Rivals, founded by Jim Heckman, filed for bankruptcy amidst the dot.com bust at the turn of the century. (Heckman is one of the founders of Scouts Inc.) Despite offers from other networks, Cargal decided to go independent. After shutting down his site a year later, Cargal turned over the Pigskin Prep domain to friend Wes Underwood, who operated the Collier-Sharp Report.Cargal is no longer affiliated with the Pigskin Prep site or the Rivals Network."I want to do everything I can to keep this site free of charge," Cargal said.Cargal, 43, was a sports writer during the 1980s and 1990s for Wichita Falls Times/Record News and Mesquite News.He also served as sports editor for The Graham Leader and Hood County News.He attended Midwestern State University with a political science/ journalism double-major.He graduated from Iowa Park High School ('83) with three Who's Who awards in journalism.Cargal has received several awards for writing and design from Texas Press Association, Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, North East Texas Press Association and was named Writer of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches in 1995.Nicknamed "Polar Bear" for his split-personalities and mood swings, Cargal is undeserving of the three beautiful children that God has blessed him with. His daughters, Leeza and MyraSue, attend Fossil Ridge HS (Keller ISD) in far north Fort Worth. His son, Ryne, attends Chisholm Trail Intermediate and will start at Fossil Ridge in the Fall 2011.Cargal's favorite teams are (NFL) Pittsburgh Steelers -- and whoever is playing Dallas! --, (NBA) San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets, (MLB) Chicago Cubs, (NHL) Pittsburgh Penguins, and (college) TCU.
