"It's a legitimate bill and the golf course can't afford to pay for their irrigation," said John Agnelli, developer of Tara.
The golf course, which is up for sale because Tara-Manatee has sold all the residential land and wants to move on, already pays up to $70,000 a year to the district for maintenance of the landscaping throughout the community, he said.
The reason that the electricity bill had risen was that the developer was subsidizing it, Agnelli said.
"The bill was always there, we were just the ones paying for it," he said.
Pfeiffer met Agnelli twice this week to discuss the charges and reached an agreement requiring the district to pay electricity fees of about 2.40 cents per 1,000 gallons of water pumped from the ponds.
