Johann Lai was born and raised in Hong Kong.After graduating from Overseas Bible Seminary (1973), he went to the Philippines to serve as missionary pastor among the Chinese Churches for eleven years (1973-84).During this time, he also received his Master of Divinity degree from Asian Theological Seminary (1981).Aside from the pastoral ministries, he taught part time at Asian Theological Seminary (Summer Greek Classes) and Biblical Seminary of the Philippines (New Testament Greek, Hermeneutics & Homiletics).In 1984, Rev. Lai went to the United States for further studies and pastoring.He served as Associate Pastor (1984-87) and Senior Pastor (1987-97) of the Dallas Chinese Bible Church, Dallas, Texas.He received his Master of Theology degree (1986) and Doctor of Ministry degree (1991) from Dallas Theological Seminary.Rev. Lai has written four books in Chinese, which include Practical Hermeneutics (1994) and From Stone to Rock ?A Study on the Life of Peter (1999); he also compiled/translated two anthologies on Prayer.Presently, he serves as Academic Dean and teaches Practical Theology courses at Overseas Theological Seminary, San Jose, California (1998-present).

Rev. Lai received his ST.M and D.Min degrees from the Dallas Theological Seminary. He has been pastoring churches in the Philippines and Dallas, TX for a total of 24 years. Rev. Lai has served as the Academic Dean and Professor of Pastoral Studies at the Overseas Theological Seminary in San Jose, CA for 5 years. In 2003, he founded the Sacred Logos Resource Center (SAGOS) with the emphasis of training and nurturing church leaders and believers. At the same time, he served as the Adjunct Professor of the D. Min Programs in the Christian Witness Theological Seminary in San Jose, CA and Alliance Bible Seminary of Hong Kong. His published titles included: Practical Hermeneutics, From Stone to Rock -- A Study in the Life of Peter; Living Faith -- An Exposition on the Book of James, True Love and Show me Your Glory, etc.
