The key to producing a number of models on the same line is to design them so that they have standard mounting points, said Johan Willems, director of product communications at Adam Opel.

The investment begins with the bodyshop, where a new 64.5kN vacuum transfer press, supplied by German press company Schuler, has been installed for pressing parts such as side panels, roofs and doors.Only 30 percent of its capacity will be used for Russelsheim, the remainder going to Bochum, Antwerp and Ellesmere Port.
Covering an area of more than 54,000 square meters, the bodyshop comprises flexible assembly lines that permit the production of the four possible models.
