Local falconer Kenn Filkins recently presented to Sault Area High School biology teacher Joel Lake's classes about the sport of falconry.
Filkins brought in two of his Harris hawks - the most common raptors used in falconry. Although they're native to the southwestern United States, they bond very easily with their handlers and work well hunting in groups. The students loved the opportunity to hear about falconry and especially to see and pet the hawks up close. Pictured with Izzy the hawk are freshman biology students Sharon Ayres, Becca Steele, biology teacher Joel Lake, Ella Rechner, and Dalton Peyton.
