Linda and Joel Haack
was born August 26, 1954 in Iowa City, Iowa.
had started school early, skipped a grade and by the time he
graduated from college he
was only 19.
...Linda majored in Spanish while Joel majored in Mathematics and later went on to earn his Master's Degree in Mathematics, Master's Degree in Statistics and his Ph.D. in Mathematics.
In 1979, Joel
was offered a position at Oklahoma State University
where the couple resided for 12 years.
...In 1991, Joel was offered the position to serve as the Mathematics Department Head at the University of Northern Iowa.He
jumped at the opportunity to return to Iowa and to make a home in Cedar Falls.
...Joel went on to serve as Interim Dean of Natural Sciences and is currently teaching in the classroom as a math professor at the University of Northern Iowa.
...Joel has also been an active member in the community through activities such as the Cedar Falls Rotary Club and has served as its president, a member of the Friends of the Hearst Center Board and was also president of the Friends of the Hartman Reserve Nature Center.
In addition Joel
has been involved on the University of Northern Iowa
campus as chair of the University of Northern Iowa Artists Series Committee
and chair of the Faculty Senate.Joel is also a talented pianist and vocalist and enjoys performing programs with Linda of four-hand piano duet music, vocal solos and sing-alongs.
and Linda recently completed the coursework and volunteer hours to become certified Iowa Master Conservationists by Iowa State Extension.
and Linda's donation to the Community Foundation of Waterloo/Cedar Falls
and Northeast Iowa will focus on benefiting adults in area nursing homes and care centers to help provide residents with educational programs, music therapy and musical programs.
