Joe Zima, a behavior specialist at the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency, said research shows these techniques cut down on negative behavior and have a direct correlation with improving standardized test scores.
Zima, the RESA specialist, credits the staff leadership team at Port Huron High for getting the program started on its own time with meetings throughout the summer. "They are really far along," Zima said. Zima is beginning this year's training for Positive Behavior Support on March 9. He encourages other county schools to get involved in the program.
