In the past year, tax collectors across the state have faced challenges with revenue shortfalls while the Legislature continues to look to them to provide additional state services, such as drivers' licenses, at the local level.

"This will not impact staff hours," states Tedder, "as our employees will still work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but will be in training for the first 30 minutes of each day."
Tedder adds, "In taking over driver licensing and other duties for the state, our staff has experienced increased training requirements.

Tax Collector Joe Tedder is estimating over 22,000 customers will come through their offices the last two weeks of December, making it the busiest time of the year at the Tax Collector's Office. December 31 is the deadline for a 3% property tax discount, as well as mobile home and heavy truck registration renewals. In addition, service centers will also be serving driver license customers, many of whom are students out for winter vacation and seeking permits. And, due to the season, holiday closings will reduce the hours of operation for walk-in services.
"All these factors create the perfect storm of high traffic through our service centers this time of year. Luckily, taxpayers have other options to avoid long lines," states Tedder. Tedder and his team have been busy this fall, spreading the word about their easy, online payment portal, www.ClickOrStick.com, where taxpayers can go and conduct many of their tax payments and renewal transactions. And now, all four service centers are offering driver license services.

Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County, reports the 2015 Property Tax Notices to all of Polk County's property owners have been mailed.
"Property owners should be receiving their bills in the mail over the next few days," says Tedder.
Each year, Tedder and his staff announce the mailing of tax bills to property owners, knowing that up to 1% of the bills each year will come back as "not deliverable" due to incorrect addresses.
Tedder reminds taxpayers their taxes are due, whether they receive a tax bill or not, citing Florida law which clearly places the burden of responsibility for payment of taxes on the property owner.
Tedder's staff reports over 332,442 property tax bills will go out in the mail this week.
