LA PLATA, Md. -- The College of Southern Maryland Foundation has announced the addition of Mark R. Floyd, Micheline Lopez-Estrada and Austin Joseph Slater Jr. to the CSM Foundation board of directors.
Slater is the president and chief executive officer of Southern Maryland Electric Co-op (SMECO), one of the largest co-ops in the nation with $500 million in assets and approximately 150,000 members.
has 500 employees and a 15-member board.

has extensive leadership experience in the electric cooperative industry.
Previously vice president with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, he was also CEO of Tideland Electric Membership Corporation in North Carolina.
Slater holds an MBA in finance from The George Washington University, a bachelor's degree from Shepherd College in accounting and an associate's degree from CSM.
Slater served CSM's Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2013, serving as chair this past year and as vice chair for two years.
He is the immediate past president of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and was inducted into its Business Hall of Fame this May.
He currently serves on the boards of Community Bank of Tri-County and the Southern Maryland Workforce Investment Board.
He is the founding secretary of the National Renewables Cooperative Organization.
is also active in many civic and community organizations.
He previously served as a board member of the Consumer Federation of America, National Cooperative Business Association and the Cooperative Development Foundation.
