Joe Pat was a successful businessman and entrepreneur.Among various dealings in the coal industry and other ventures, Joe Pat founded the Highwayman Restaurant and the Pantry Shelf Market in Hazard, with a second location in Lexington, being the first market built along Tates Creek Road (near Mt. Tabor Rd.) in Lexington, KY.Most notably, Joe Pat was president of Hazard Insurance Agency Inc.; which at one time was Kentucky's largest independent insurance agency and owner/operator of La Citadelle Motel; which at one time featured Kentucky's only 4 star restaurant.Joe Pat's ability to host and entertain was well known; orchestrating such lavish parties as the Mountain Men's Golf Tournament held annually at the Family Horse Farm(3-T Farm) in Lexington, as well as political functions and charitable fund-raisers, such as the Wings Ballet.While Joe Pat's charisma and charm served him well, it was his humble and giving nature that attached all who came to know him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Louise Tutt Gorman.He is survived by his children, Joe D. Gorman of Tucson, AZ.; Amy M. Gorman of Nashua, NH. and S. Tutt (Erin) Gorman of Lexington, KY; his four grandchildren, Allie, Mason, JD, and Austin; his brothers Mayor William D. (Nan) Gorman and L.D. Gorman and several nieces and nephews.Joe Pat served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.Joe Pat participated in the 1st WSGS Lions Club Auction.Click on image
