Joe Minicozzi is the principal of Urban3, a consulting firm created by Asheville real estate developer, Public Interest Projects.
Urban3's work in pioneering geo-spatial representation of economic productivity has prompted a paradigm shift in understanding the economic potency of urbanism and the value of well-designed cities. Their studies for municipalities across the United States and Canada have affected the reevaluation of public policy and a broader understanding of market dynamics created by tax policy. Joe is a sought after lecturer on city planning issues and his work has been featured in numerous journals and at international conferences. He is a founding member of the Western North Carolina-based, non-profit Asheville Design Center. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami and Master of Architecture and Urban Design from Harvard University.

Challenge your assumptions about land use and development with Joe Minicozzi of Urban3, as he discusses long-term property value drivers, suburban sprawl and the value of mixed-use urban development.
Minicozzi's keynote session will change the way people think about the cost of development, sprawl and the value of land. He will present the results of studies across the US and Canada to demonstrate the market and tax revenue effect of various land use patterns. His work makes visual the tenet that "form follows finance," and breaks into the underlying assumptions that run counter to the work of efficient planning and Smart Growth. To steal a line from Jerry McGuire, Joe will "show you the money.

Hear Joseph Minicozzi (Principal at Urban3, LLC) and CNU President John Norquist in a discussion on how to create and present the economic benefit arguments for freeway removal.
Joe Minicozzi's research on value capture of mixed-use development and density is powerful argument for cities demanding better returns on development. The "return on investment" argument is a persuasive, and one cities around North American need to hear. John and Joe will also unpack how urban freeways affect the value of real estate and land throughout a metropolitan region and share best practices for presenting this argument to local and state Departments of Transportation.
