Minicozzi discussed the challenges and opportunities of compact development
Last Tuesday, June 3rd, Joe Minicozzi, Principal of the consulting firm Urban3, gave a presentation titled "How to Measure Development. In it he discussed the findings of his 3-month study on the effects of Buffalo Niagara's development practices on our tax base, quality of life, and general economic viability. Using sophisticated 3D modeling along with simple math, Minicozzi explained how compact, mixed-use development results in greater tax yields per acre of development than the sprawling, single use development that has characterized our region for the last few decades. Furthermore, dense development can also lead to more culturally rich and economically prosperous places. The free and open event presented by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, as part of One Region Forward's Economic of Sustainability series, took place from 6PM to 8PM at Templeton Landing in Buffalo, NY. IMG_2220 Minicozzi discussed how compact development can increase our region's tax base, quality of life, and economic prosperity. Minicozzi explained how we traditionally measure development by simply determining the total amount of taxes that a development will pay.
