Joe P. Jeffrey wears many hats. His resume tells us he is a rancher, retired extension agent, county commissioner, and public speaker. What Jeffrey's resume doesn't tell us is the countless hours he spends working for the good of the land and the community.Every year at the county fair he judges the youngest category of public speakers.
...
The effort Jeffrey puts forth in helping his community, is only one reason he was named a member of the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement in March, 2000.
...
Jeffrey was recently appointed by the governor of Nebraska to the Platte River Cooperative Agreement.Jeffrey will be advising the governor on how to manage the water from the Platte River."Our ranch has 15 miles of the Platte River running through it," Jeffrey says."If we don't have water for irrigation, the land would dry up and blow away."Jeffrey works to preserve the land whenever possible, and still devotes time to his other occupation, public speaker."My first professional speaking engagement was in 1970 at Colorado's Saddle and Sirloin Club dinner," Jeffrey says. From that first performance, Jeffrey counts he has spoken in 24 states, Canada, and mainland China. His performances include slide shows of interesting outhouses and fence posts."I entertain farmers and ranchers so they'll give me their problems for an hour," Jeffrey says.

According to Joe Jeffrey, Lexington-area cattle producer, veterinarian and Nebraska Beef Council director, researchers have been looking for a silver bullet - a practical method by which producers can help defeat the pathogen.,There are many, many strains of E.coli bacteria, but researchers have pinpointed 0157:H7 as the problem. They now know a lot more about it, and are ready to test methods for pre-harvest control,, says Jeffrey.
...
Joe Jeffrey calls the continuing research worthy of investment of beef producers, checkoff dollars. He says maintaining consumer confidence in the safety of beef should be a priority.,E.coli isn,t anything new, and it isn,t something associated only with meat products.
