When we( Joe Contaldi & Myself) did 6-Pack flyfishing Charters aboard the Pacific Clipper back in the early '90s...we had to start from square one as to how to best position the Boat, get the fly fishers into a rotation along the stern & how much to chum. (no one had ever done 6-pack flyfishing charters on the West Coast, so we were Pioneers...).
Send my regards to Joe Contaldi. What is he up to these days? Joe is the Manager of the Porter Ranch Sport Chalet here in the Valley... Joe is Married & the extremely Proud father of two up & coming Flyfishing Boys= Quinn & Logan. (if you vist him at the Store, you'll see all the Photos of his Sons on the wall by his Desk....Kudos to Joe!!!!!). Joe wishes he could Flyfish more often then he is able to (Don't We all??????). I have invited him to join me out in the Surf, but he has responsibilties...(albeit, not as Important ((LOL!!!!)). Joe is a very good friend, and I am very proud to call him my Friend....

Joe Contaldi of Performance Anglers Guide Service in Mammoth, Ca. was tired of breaking cheaply made inported nets.
We bumped into each other as exhibitors at the Pleasanton, Ca. Fly Fishing Show 2012. I showed him another client's net similar to this one. He was astounded at the strength of the Wenge hoop on that one. The rest is history... This is a beefed up guide model created especially for the type of fishing Joe does daily. The Wenge hoop was reinforced with extra strips of wenge and a wider frame. The yoke is fortified with a few strips of Wenge as well.

I started my journey from my home in Riverside, CA at 9am in the morning, next stop, Mammoth Lakes, CA to pick up my fishing buddy, Joe Contaldi of Performance Anglers Guide Service.
This would be an opportunity for my first trip with Joe, to Pyramid Lake and hopefully many, many more in the years to come. We ended up with 12 fish between the two of us, Joe had 7, and I had 5. Joe had 10 fish, and I ended with 12. We ended this day with 20 fish Joe 8, and I with 10 but still with the biggest smile you could possibly imagine on my face that never stopped from when I released that beautiful fish of a life time back into its ancient home.

Performance Anglers, Mammoth Lakes, California - Hire a Guide

Joe Contaldi - Performance Anglers head guide and manager Joe Contaldi began his life-long angling addiction at the ripe age of four.
Fishing the streams of the New Jersey countryside as a young lad, Joe lived "tight lines" and "bent rods" even before entering into kindergarten. When asked in his first math class what the sum of ten plus twelve is, he offered the response, "About the number of fish that I caught yesterday! Relocating to Southern California during his high school years, Joe began to explore all of the So Cal waters, and all that they have to offer. Joe's history of angling in Southern California is exceptionally respectable. "Matuka Joe" has twenty years to-date of fishing and guiding experience in the Eastern Sierra. He understands all of the fish species, and the vast majority of fishable waters in Mono and Inyo Counties. Likewise, Joe has a history of hanging out with salty dawgs, bringing to the decks of countless ocean charter boats plenty of Bluefin, Yellowfin, Albacore, Dorado, and almost every other saltwater species one can find off of the coast of Southern California. Ask him about it next time you are in the shop. The fifteen years that Joe committed to running saltwater spinning and fly fishing charters is evident, in his love of being out on the boat on Convict Lake or Crowley Lake. When Joe is not fishing or guiding on the bountiful creeks, streams, and rivers in the Eastern Sierra, "Matuka Joe" likely has the boat anchored on a very productive corner of Crowley Lake. The P.A. Midge and P.A. Perch patterns envisioned and developed by Joe do land lots of very big trout throughout the region, each and every summer. "Matuka Joe" has spearheaded the world of video fly fishing and video spin & bait reports for the Eastern Sierra. They are really cool, extremely informative, and on this website. Joe really enjoys spending quality time fishing with his family: his lovely wife Julia and two sons Quinn and Logan. Youth development goes further than Joe's family, as he is deeply and selflessly committed towards bringing young (and younger) anglers into the world of fishing. He heads up the Kids Fishing Festival in Mammoth Lakes every View Joe's guide photos Rick came across "Matuka Joe" years ago, working with Joe as a teacher of fly angling, and as a very accomplished guide.
