A partnership agreement was signed by Joanna Genovese, Director, Training and Development in the Centre for Development, Research and Training in the Office of the Prime Minister and Ms Judit Pintz, International Programme Co-ordinator in the National Institute of Public Administration of Hungary on behalf of Norbert Kis, Director General of the Institute.

Scott Grech caught up with the centre's Chief Executive Officer Dr Philip von Brockdorff, and Director for Training and Development, Joanna Genovese, to see what exactly goes on at the CDRT.
As Joanna Genovese, in her capacity as director explains, the centre's main responsibilities are related to improving the image and esprit de corps of government organisations by providing employees with the necessary skills to deliver a more efficient and effective service to the public. "For instance, in courses related to management," Ms Genovese explains, "besides the normal management training given by trainers, we have action learning workshops where senior managers bring real-life case studies for discussion with their peers and then go back to their work place with a proposed solution, after which they will meet again to discuss whether that action plan was successful." This increases participants' competence on how to deal with people and issues and at the same time. "Participants are capable of recognising how to generate ownership and responsibility among all stakeholders, and also be ready to equip themselves with better skills and tools for real business effectiveness," she says. "However, much of the courses available are aimed at the public service as a whole, and not restricted to any sphere or level," Ms Genovese adds. Ms Genovese adds: "We keep tabs on developments abroad and courses which are au courant at EU level. Some courses could be expanded into longer-term programmes, while others can be specifically designed to suit the needs of a particular group. "Furthermore, we get an insight into where the future of public administration is heading towards on an annual basis when the government outlines and presents its budget in parliament," she says.
