However, according to State Director of the New York Transgender Rights Organization (NYTRO), Joann Prinzivalli, the passage of GENDA is not entirely without hope.
Prinzivalli's colleague and fellow NYTRO Director Melissa Sklarz notes that there are currently three Republican Senators on record as supporting GENDA: Senators Alesi, Flanagan, and McDonald.
Prinzivalli puts the whip count at 32, so the bill, if voted on tomorrow, would pass with narrow bipartisan support, with notoriously anti-LGBT Senator Ruben Diaz being the only Democrat in opposition.
Prinzivalli strongly recommends contacting Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, and, if your local Senator is a Republican, contacting her or him as well. (Skelos' contact info: Phone: (518) 455-3171 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org)
Should the current Senate legislative session end with GENDA dead in committee, Prinzivalli
does point to one last ray of hope, short of the Senate shifting to a Democratic majority in the next election.

Joann Prinzivalli is the founder and state director of the New York Transgender Rights Organization (NYTRO), an unincorporated association consisting of member chapters around the state of New York.
NYTRO chapters are dedicated to grass roots transgender activism in their local communities and centered on local and state-level advocacy for trans-inclusive legislation.
These include the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA), the Dignity for All Youth Act (DAYA), and the Governor's Program Bill on Marriage.
Working on behalf of the wider Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, Joann has worked on the Westchester County Executive's LGBT Advisory Board since its inception in 2002.
Since 2007, Joann has also added a transgender presence to the board of the Paul Rapoport Foundation, which provides support for programs and organizations working in the area of social services, health care, legal rights and issues, and community empowerment for the diverse LGBT community in the New York metropolitan area.
