Joan Secchia
Joan Secchia has lived a life defined by leadership and service to others. From teaching elementary school to her involvement in civic and community organizations, Joan has contributed her time and talent for the betterment of the community. Joan has served on the Women's Resource Center Board and as a trustee for Aquinas College. She also has been a board member for the Grand Rapids Public Schools Student Advancement Foundation for the past 17 years.
While in Rome, when her husband served as U.S. Ambassador to Italy from 1989 until 1993, Joan continued a wide range of activities. She was a member of the Fulbright Commission, a board member of the USO, was instrumental in the formation of a Rome chapter of the Navy League, and planned and directed an extensive restoration project at the Villa Taverna, the residence of U.S. Ambassadors to Italy.
Joan also was one of six co-chairs for the For Our Kids Campaign that raised $103 million to help build the new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
