Korb Criticized For ConductBy Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.comFebruary 12, 2008The conduct of Door County Assistant District Attorney Joan Korb has come under criticism from Sheriff Terry Vogel and County Board Supervisor Mark Savard.Korb was the passenger in a vehicle operated by a woman who was arrested for drunk driving December 8 in the Town of Gibraltar.Korb's responsibilities as assistant district attorney include prosecuting drunk drivers.The operator of the vehicle in which she was a passenger tested at more than twice the legal limit after being pulled over at 2:42 AM.An officer observed the vehicle in which Korb was a passenger weaving back and forth and crossing the centerline on Highway 42.Sheriff Vogel said Korb put herself in a position to be second-guessed. Through a secretary at the Door County District Attorney's Office, Joan Korb declined to comment.Sheriff Vogel said Korb has not contacted his department with an apology or explanation.

"Sometimes drastic cases require some drastic measures to eliminate harm to future victims," Korb said.Korb said she agreed to plea bargain the felonies to a misdemeanors because the medical evidence of the pregnancies was at risk of being thrown out.The only exceptions are homicide and child abuse, and both would have been tough to prove without bodies, Korb said.Korb said she plans to work with the state bar association, district attorneys' association and legislators to have another exception written into the medical privacy law."Who is going to report this other than a medical professional? . . .
