JoAnne Shapiro, Religious School Principal
JoAnne's passion and pride in her Jewish heritage explains why she is so comfortable in her role as the Educational Director of our Religious School, JETS, and Ru'ach programs.
brings over 25 years of Jewish education experience, having taught children ranging from three years of age to 18 years old, as well as having worked with the parents and grandparents who so frequently participate in family education sessions.
A native Chicagoan, JoAnne
lived in St. Louis, Missouri for 17 years before moving to Long Island in 2003.
Prior to becoming involved in Jewish education, she received her Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Illinois and Master's degree in Public Health Administration from the University of Michigan.
was well on her
way to receiving a Master's degree in Special Education only to place her
studies on hold to ensure that her
own children would be driven to Hebrew School!
is a graduate of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School and has professional memberships with the JEA (Jewish Educator's Assembly) and the Conservative Principals' Council
(CPC) of Greater Long Island.
She is also a fellow in the Leadership Institute for Congregational School Educators (LICSE).
and her husband, Marc, live in East Setauket and are extremely proud of their children but especially k'vell over their granddaughter, Isabella Leia.
