CARBONDALE -- Glenn and Jo Poshard used the occasion of Poshard's retirement celebration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale to announce the establishment of a $500,000 scholarship endowment to benefit middle and low income students who transfer to SIUC from five local community colleges, including John A. Logan, Rend Lake, Kaskaskia, Southeastern Illinois and Shawnee.

"We both benefited from the education we received at SIUC, and have been very fortunate," said Poshard at the announcement.
Poshard has announced his retirement as SIUC's vice chancellor for administration recently and a reception was given in his honor Friday night on the campus of SIUC.
Jo Poshard said of the endowment, "As a teacher for nearly 30 years, I want others to know what opportunities a college education can provide."
She teaches third grade in Carterville.
"We will contribute $25,000 annually to the fund over the next 20 years," she added.
Also Poshard announced he would donate his formal papers from his days as an Illinois state senator and as a U.S.Congressman to Morris Library at SIUC.
"I've already delivered many boxes and I'm slowly going through the remainder," said Poshard.
