Jimmy Coppola joins Westmoreland as key account manager
Westmoreland Sales/TopLine, headquartered in Leamington, Ontario, recently announced that Jimmy Coppola has joined the firm as key account manager.
"I will be helping with our current portfolio of partners as well as seeking out that 'next great partnership,'" Coppola said. "My tasks also include working on our marketing endeavors with input from our entire organization."
TopLine is one of the largest greenhouse producers, packers and shippers in North America. It is completely grower owned and therefore, Coppola noted, dealing direct with the grower cannot get any easier.

Westmoreland/TopLine is currently promoting all of these products in addition to bite-size mini peppers, mid-size peppers, hot peppers, cocktail and grape tomatoes, baby eggplant, long sweet peppers and more.

Coppola said that consistent promotion on these items is key with growth being ultimately dependent on consumer demand and synergies with its retail partners.
"Here at Westmoreland/TopLine we are always working on new packaging," Coppola said.
Coppola noted that even in a weakened economy people still need to eat, and eating healthy is more on the minds of people today.
"Greenhouse technology, including the materials used to create the greenhouses, enables growers to grow better product more efficiently, which closes the pricing gap as compared to field-grown produce," he said.

Coppola said that more Canadian visitors attend the CPMA event than from other countries, and they represent all categories of the produce industry.
"Canadian attendees are followed by professionals from the United States and Mexico," he noted.

Coppola said that it's a perfect item for salad lovers on-the-go, or just to add that little extra touch to make for an unforgettable snack. The product won an award in the Best New Produce category at the 2014 Canadian Produce Marketing Association this year.

Jimmy Coppola, account manager, marketing, for Westmoreland Sales/TopLine, headquartered in Leamington, ON, told The Produce News that the company continues to grow, pack and ship all of its gourmet greenhouse produce.
"Our line of greenhouse produce is comprised of beefsteak tomatoes, cluster tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, seedless cucumbers, mini seedless cucumbers and bell peppers," said Coppola. "In addition, we produce a long list of specialty products such as grape tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cocktail tomatoes, mini Roma tomatoes, mini sweet pepper, hot pepper, baby eggplant and much more."
Westmoreland Sales' greenhouses are located in Ontario and it also has investments in greenhouses in Mexico, Central America, the U.S. and in Europe to help support it partner-customers 365 days a year.
"We are always looking for new strategic locations to expand our operations," said Coppola. "Currently we are looking into more opportunities in Mexico, Central America, the United States and the Dominican Republic."
Westmoreland Sales' Canadian production starts in early to mid-February and runs through mid- to late December. Coppola said that for the short period of time that Canada is not producing, the company turns to its investment greenhouse partners in Mexico, who also supplement the company's production year-round. The company markets its line of high quality greenhouse produce under the "TopLine" brand name.
"We are fortunate to have some of the best partners around," noted Coppola.
The company is fully up to date with all of its food safety initiatives and is in the process of finalizing its non-GMO status, which Coppola said is expected to be completed in the near future.
Westmoreland Sales is acutely aware of the strong locally grown trend and it is stepping up to base to meet the demand.

Jimmy JIMMY COPPOLA joined Leamington, ON-based Westmoreland Sales' TopLine team as an account manager in February.
In his new role, Mr. Coppola will be handling commodities such as greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, Bell peppers and a long line of specialty products. He also recently took on the marketing responsibilities for TopLine.
Mr. Coppola has been in the produce industry for around four years and has been involved in the greenhouse industry, in one aspect or another, for over six years. He first got his start in the greenhouse industry as a young child, assisting family and friends with their greenhouses - from picking fruit to transplanting plants and even assisting in the construction of greenhouses. It was his connection and passion for greenhouses that ultimately led him to a career in produce.
"After deciding to depart from my prior employer to seek out new opportunities, it came to my realization that I enjoy the greenhouse and produce industry and I felt I still had much to offer," he told The Produce News. "So I met with the team and owners of TopLine and instantly knew this was a great company to join."
Outside of work, Mr. Coppola is passionate about animals, music and films. He is particularly interested in the film industry and hopes to one day direct and release a feature film. "And with a last name like mine, I am hoping my foot is already in the door," he added.
