Jim Swift - "Porch Radio" Thursdays 7-9pm
was 17 years old in 1966, when he
first radio job, spinning 45 rpm, Top 40 records on the "Swift Sound of Music" show.
It was an after school and Saturday morning deejay gig at a small AM radio station in Georgetown, Texas: KGTN.
Six years later, after college and a short stint in seminary, Jim
was back in radio, this time in the news department at KWHI
in Brenham, Texas.
In fact, he
was the news department.
Two years later, he landed in Austin, working in the news department at the old KOKE-FM.
Sporting a "Progressive Country" format, the station sounded much like Sun Radio does today.
After only a year at KOKE, Jim
way into television with a job as a reporter at KXAN
(then KTVV), the NBC affiliate in Austin.
wound up specializing in human interest / feature stories in a series known as, "On the Porch."
After 36 years at KXAN, Jim retired October 1, 2013, and eleven months later he returned to his radio roots, launching Sun Radio's solar-powered,"Porch Radio.
