Jim Martz of Florida Tennis and Kevin Janison of KLAS-TV, Las Vegas, Nev. have won the 2000 USTA Media Excellence Awards for print and broadcast media, the United States Tennis Association announced.
Martz, its publisher-editor, founded Florida Tennis, now in its 10th year of publication.Martz, a tennis writer for the Miami Herald for 18 years, created Florida Tennis in 1992.Florida Tennis covers all aspects of tennis, with an emphasis on grassroots tennis.In 2000, there were four cover stories devoted to USTA grassroots tennis, including articles on tennis participation and wheelchair tennis.

Jim Martz Jim Martz is the founder, publisher and editor of Florida Tennis Magazine, which has served as the Voice of Tennis in Florida since 1992 and is a winner of the USTA's national Media Excellence Award. Previously Martz was a sports writer and columnist with the Miami Herald for 22 years, and before that he was at the Des Moines Register sports department for nearly three years. Martz has written four books on University of Miami football and one on UM baseball, and edited the book "50 Love, Advantage Florida," a history of the USTA Florida division. Since 1992 Matz also has been editor of Canesport Magazine. He is a native of South Bend, Ind., received a B.A. at Alma College in Michigan and an M.A. at the University of Iowa.
