Jim Leahey is the Director of Sports Programming for KFVE-TV (K5 The Home Team).He joined the station in 1984.As The Voice of Rainbow Sports, Leahey calls the play-by-play action for all televised University of Hawaii sports events, including: football; men s and womens volleyball; mens and womens basketball; baseball; soccer; swimming; and softball.K5 produces approximately 120 sports broadcasts annually.Leahey has been doing play-by-play broadcasting for over three decades.He was awarded Hawaii Sportscaster of the Year 19 times by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.Prior to coming to K5, he was the sports director at KGMB-TV/CBS for six years.Before that, he was a teacher at James Campbell High School for 10 years. Leahey graduated from St. Louis High School and continued his education at Chaminade University in Honolulu.He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of San Francisco.Following his tour in the Navy, including a year in Vietnam with the Third Marine Division, Leahey received a Masters in Education from the University of Hawaii in 1970.

Kanoa Leahey, son of KFVE TV sportscaster Jim Leahey will become the lead sportscaster for Hawaii's Fox network TV station, KHON Channel 2.
Leahey who does sports for KITV 4, Hawaii's ABC affiliate will be seen on Channel 4 for the last time this Saturday. After that he moves to KHON TV but won't be on the air until November due to a contractual "non-compete" clause in his contract.

Hawaii's iconic father and son sports duo, Jim and Kanoa Leahey, tackle a wide range of topics each week.Jim Leahey is a member of Hawaii's best known sports broadcasting family.Growing up, Jim would tag along with his father to take in sporting events.In 1966 Jim graduated from the University of San Francisco with a degree in philosophy and political science.He taught at Campbell High School before joining his father at KITV, where he would go on to take a sports anchor position.In 1979 Jim moved to KGMB-TV where he replaced Joe Moore and worked for 15 years before taking a job with KFVE.Jim also has served as a play-by-play announcer for KGMB-TV and radio and currently does broadcasts for UH athletic events.Jim and his wife Toni have three children.In 2005 Jim and Kanoa teamed up for Leahey and Leahey on PBS Hawaii. Grandfather Chuck Leahey was the radio "Voice of the Rainbows" in the 1960s and '70s, and father Jim Leahey is known for his television broadcasts of UH sports.Jim Leahey
