Adult homes share in $13M state aid package - 2004-11-11 - The Business Review (Albany)

albany.bizjournals.com [cached]

"Adult homes are closing by the week, pushing more vulnerable seniors out of their homes without a place to turn," said James Kane Jr., president of the Empire State Association of Adult Homes and Assisted Living Facilities. Kane is also president of Clifton Park-based Adirondack Manor Inc. which, operates 14 adult homes in the region. The construction portion of the latest package really is the delayed release of funds budgeted for 2003 and 2004, Kane said. Gov. George Pataki this year vetoed a new $10-million package that would have benefited operators more directly. "The Legislature approved a balanced approach that provided hope to adult homes and their residents. The governor's veto and the (Health) Department's re-appropriation of these funds dashes that hope," Kane said.
