At sentencing, deputy Minnehaha County state's attorney Jim Iosty said the defendant cannot lawfully exist in society.
The burglary occurred only a few months after he
was released from prison for the 1993 murder of a 14-year-old boy on the Rosebud Indian Reservation and later walking away from a halfway house.
Makes Room For Them said Monday he
wasn't involved in the May 19 home invasion and asked for probation so he
could spend time with the 13- and 14-year-old sons he
"I just want to be out there for them before it's too late," he
said, describing how he
encourages the youth in his
family to stay away from gangs.
