Jim Hirstein, University of Montana mathematics chairman, hopes that students aren't reluctant to become math majors because they don't think there will be job opportunities for them after graduation.
That's why Hirstein
and representatives from 31 UM departments will be available to speak with students at the first UM Majors Fair in the UC Ballroom Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
will sit at the math department booth for part of the day.
"It will be interesting to see what happens," he
said."I'm happy that they have an opportunity to talk to us."He
said the booth will have handouts for undergraduates about what kinds of jobs are possible with a math degree.He
already anticipates the kind of direction he
is going to give students when it comes to math.
