PRESENTER - Jim Heavey
Jim Heavey of Wood Magazine conducted an all-day woodworking seminar for WWCH members and the public for the July 2015 meeting. Circle Saw of Houston provided speaker-fee assistance and the meeting room was furnished free-of-charge by Crosspoint Church, Bellaire, TX. Crosspoint church offered a lunch with proceeds going to support Makobe Children's Home in Kenya, Africa. Please read the list of others who were instrumental in donating labor and/or equipment to help make this seminar a success.
Jim addressed many woodworking topics beginning with proper alignment of a table saw then making raised panels with cope and stick joints using a router. But his topics didn't stop there. Jim provided numerous tips for using a taper jig, mortise jig, gluing up flat panels, and cutting crown molding. Embellishing your work with inlays, carving, marquetry and veneering was explained which was then topped off by finishing techniques.
With permission to post online, Jim provided numerous PDF files of articles published in Wood Magazine along with many photographs of jigs and techniques that Jim talked about.
