Outdoor Connection Ministries, formerly known as Let's Go Fishing Ministries, was founded by Jim Grassi in 1981.
As a former Parks and Recreation Administrator, free-lance journalist, tournament bass fisherman, sports show host, television personality, father of twins and husband, Jim
recognized that he
was more worried about being important than doing what was important. After attending a Jim Dobson conference at Mt. Hermon Christian Conference Center, Jim's life radically changed. He
became committed to serving God and his
family and learning all he
could about what it means to be a godly man.He
rediscovered the faith of his
youth and re-committed his
life to Christ. He became a student of God's word and went on to become ordained through the Evangelical Church Alliance. It was the challenge of a pastor and the encouragement of close friends that first caused Jim to think about taking his passion for the outdoors and utilize it as a way to bring people closer to God.
In 1978, Jim
was encouraged to develop a pilot family fishing program designed to be televised on a regional Christian television station. The program promoted positive family values, strong biblical parenting and a love for God's great outdoors. The program never obtained enough sponsorship to be a viable business and was abandoned.
However, the vision for a ministry that would be directed to "busy dads" was not forgotten.Through the encouragement of Christian Leaders like Chuck Swindoll, Jim
developed an organization that utilized conferences, retreats, sports shows, literature and VIP trips as a way to share God's word on family values, evangelism and discipleship.
During the summer of 1980 while attending Mt. Hermon Family Camp, Jim
was asked to prepare a plan to develop a Father/Son Fishing Retreat to be held in May 1981.The vision for a unique outreach program was put in place; however, God had other plans for Jim
.After carefully preparing all aspects of the retreat, Jim
found out he
had a very serious non-malignant brain tumor that was life threatening.
...Jim was working full time as the Deputy Town Manager for Moraga and spent time on the ministry in the evenings and weekends.
From the inception Jim's family was involved with the ministry.
...Trusting in God, during February 1986, Jim left the Town of Moraga to become the full-time Executive Director/President of OCM.
During 1988 a national Christian fishing organization was being formed that eventually led to the Fellowship Of Christian Anglers Association
was asked to lead this Chattanooga, Tennessee based organization in duplicating the vision of OCM
on a national level. After six years of trying to run both the regional OCM ministry and FOCAS, Jim
national post to focus more on his
