JIM DAMASKE | Times NP_358736_DAMA_CULINARY_2 (9/6/2012 TARPON SPRINGS) Jyaira Moore, 17, a Sr. from St. Petersburg, tends to her shrimp, sauage and rice dish for competition at JCAA. - Jacobson Culinary Arts Academy students at Tarpon Springs High are competing to join a culinary competition team. In a set time they had to produce a restaurant-quality dish to impress judges, who will decide which students have the skills to compete in the upcoming ProStart and SkillsUSA competitions. ItOs a serious deal. JCAA won the ProStart state championship 3 years ago and went to the National competition in Kansas City. Tarpon Springs students competing in the past 3 years got scholarships to such schools as CIA, Cordon Bleu, Arts Institute, Keiser University or Johnson & Wales. Eight students will be chosedn to move on. [Jim Damaske, Times]
