"If we work with producers and help keep their sheep safe, they won't have to remove any wolves we hope," said Jesse Timberlake, a field technician for Defenders of Wildlife, a conservation group that has supported wolf reintroduction by paying ranchers for their losses.
Defenders put $21,000 into the project.

Jesse Timberlake has joined the British Wild Flower Plant team as Business Development and Project Manager.
He previously worked for the RSPB on their many reserves in Norfolk. Jesse Timberlake returned from the American West two years ago, where he surveyed native and invasive plant species for the Forest Service. He has been based in East Anglia since then, working with the RSPB on their spectacularly biologically rich reserves in the Yare Valley, involved in vegetation management and species recovery. He has a Master's degree from Imperial College and has previously worked at Kew Gardens. He is very excited to join the team at British Wild flower Plants to lead their business development programme.

Wood River update - Last week our Wood River Wolf Project team leader (and former Idaho representative for Defenders) Jesse Timberlake spent time talking to sheep herders.
Their job is to guard sheep as they pass through the Idaho backcountry. Since they're living outside with the sheep full-time, from spring until fall, they know the landscape and the animals better than anyone. So Jesse wanted to get their opinion of which nonlethal deterrents worked best to keep hungry predators away from their flocks.
