was born in Stanton, Tennessee, and was the son of a farmer.He
childhood working on the family's dairy and row crop farm.
At the age of 14, he
led a multiracial coalition of high school and college students in their efforts to desegregate all public facilities in Haywood County.The coalition's non-violent efforts lead to the desegregation of ALL Haywood County Schools
.Dr. Cannon is a graduate of Haywood High School. During his 23 year practice he has served on the Hospital Staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital in Tipton; Haywood Park Hospital and Baptist Memorial Hospital in Lauderdale County.He also served as the Chief of Staff of the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Tipton.Currently, Dr. Cannon is working in Emergency Medicine with West Tennessee Healthcare of Jackson, Tennessee and serving as an Internal Medicine consultant for the New Hope Family Medicine Clinic in Grand Junction, Tennessee.Dr. Cannon is also the CEO of Cannon Enterprises; an internet home based business that he manages with his wife Mickey.

also participates in the Job shadowing programs in Tipton and Haywood counties.He is a former member of Union Planters Bank and Union Savings Bank Boards of Directors.He is a life member of the NAACP in Haywood and Tipton Counties.Dr. Cannon is an Elder and serves as the Director of Education for the Hatchie Church of Christ, in Covington, TN where his family attends.
