Naples artist Jerry Vallez, signature member of the International Society of Marine Painters, was four years old when his family moved to Paris. His artist mother started him off on his painting career with a tutor at age seven, and he's been painting ever since. Jerry's family returned home to the United States at the outbreak of WWII.
After dedicating three years of his life to the Navy, Jerry then went to Bradley University where he paid his way with the assistance of the GI Bill of Rights, and by creating hand-painted neckties (none of which are known to have survived the years, but are among his earliest art sales). After graduating from Bradley University, Jerry and Robah (his wife of 53 years) moved to Illinois where he established his first studio. Daughters Michelle and Lisa were born, and in 1963 Jerry entered his first competitive show, The Chicago Arts Festival at McCormick Place where he was one of 53 artists accepted out of more than 800 entries. Jerry opened an additional summer studio in Door County, Wisconsin, and finally settled in Naples, Florida in 1971.
In 1976 Jerry was listed in the bicentennial issue of Wisconsin Men of Distinction and in 1986 he won first place in an International Marine Art competition held in New York at Madison Square Garden.

Crayton Cove extends deepest condolences to friends, family and fans of artist Jerry Vallez. Jerry's deep, 40-year connection with Crayton Cove began in 1971 with his arrival-by-sea at the Cove Inn marina with his family. Since opening his first studio in Crayton Cove 40 years ago, Jerry Vallez received numerous awards and accolades in Naples and nationally. He had his works admitted to the Collier County Historical Society, was named best artist by Gulfshore Life in 2001, is featured in the Von Leibig Center for the Arts' permanent collection, and won first place in the Sea Heritage Foundation's National Marine Art competition. Jerry Vallez's paintings are hanging throughout Collier County's boardrooms, office buildings, private collections, hotels, residences, and numerous other facilities. Jerry's Vallez will long be remembered in Crayton Cove for his many contributions to the community, especially for helping to make Crayton Cove the thriving artists' colony that it is today.

NAPLES - Jerry Vallez doesn't normally sketch orange blossoms.
He's in to maritime themes, and has been for decades.
But when Florida's newest first lady requested that an orange blossom grace the cover of note cards meant to commemorate the inauguration, Vallez, a Naples painter, became well-versed in the art of the small white flower.
Vallez, 86, designed the orange blossom note card that will be given out to Florida residents attending a Jan. 3 luncheon honoring Ann Scott, wife of Gov.-elect Rick Scott.
...
Vallez, a longtime resident, moved to Naples from Illinois in 1971. He wanted to be near the water, he said, and originally had wanted to move to the Northwest, but his wife frowned at the idea. The pair moved instead to Naples, where Vallez and his wife - Robah Vallez, a local artist who died earlier this year - became immersed in the local art scene.
Vallez has had nearly a dozen studios since his time in Naples, and his art work can be found on walls of homes, offices and local landmarks throughout the city.
...
Bettina Inclan, a spokeswoman for the Scott inauguration, said Vallez was chosen to create the note cards because Ann Scott likes to feature local artists when possible.
...
Vallez, Inclan said, "is one of her favorites."
...
The initial request was for art work, but staffers eventually asked if Vallez could do an orange blossom to match a similar design on invitations sent out for the event.
"I've been at this for so long, and I've painted everything you can think of," Vallez said. "But I think this is probably the first orange blossom I did."
That's primarily because Vallez specializes in maritime art, O'Brien said.

...
Vallez agrees. He said this was the first time he has been asked to create a piece of art for a governor.
"I was … very honored," he said.
While Vallez has not met the Scotts, he said he was pleased to work with them and has offered to loan a 20-inch by 30-inch print of his Naples Pier painting to the first family to hang in the governor's mansion in Tallahassee.

Jerry Vallez has been active in the field of fine arts for over thirty years, primarily as a painter, but also as a teacher, competitive show judge, lecturer, book illustrator and consultant as noted in the Bicentennial Issue of Wisconsin Men of Achievement.Jerry Vallez is also a professional member of the International Society of Marine Painters.
His childhood was spent in Paris, France where his artist mother started him off with a tutor at the age of seven. He has also lived in Michigan, Connecticut, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Florida, where he now resides with his wife Robah in Naples, Florida.
Vallez feels this somewhat nomadic life has contributed greatly to his growth as an artist, and he still likes to travel and accepts commissions from anywhere.
Even though most of his work is marine oriented and realistic, he enjoys experimenting and thus has mastered most media from pencil through watercolor, egg tempera, oil, acrylic, and others.
In 1986 Vallez's painting GALE FORCE won first prize in the annual Sea Heritage Foundation Marine Art Competition.
