2010 JERRY BEGUHN
Jerry's accomplishments are many.
started curling almost as soon as he
arrived in Rice Lake, in 1972.
He has served on the Board of Directors for two separate terms, but his real claim to leadership fame came during his presidency from 1987-1989.
On August 1, 1988 the fairgrounds building used by the Rice Lake Curling Club
burned to the ground.
Only after a tremendous amount determination and hard work, did Jerry
negotiate with the City of Rice Lake for a new location and eventually a 99 year lease.
The following year he
would develop and implement a budget to furnish and operate the new building that today we call our home.
has chaired almost every possible event or activity held at the Club.
Numerous invitational bonspiels, men's and mixed curling leagues, but again he
went well above and beyond that when in the 2001 Mixed National Championship he
took the lead role in soliciting sponsorships critical to the event.
stepped up again in 2007 and chaired our 40th anniversary celebration, undoubtedly one of the Club's pinnacle events.
has never been one to back down when the Curling Club
needs a leader.
The Club can thank Jerry
for introducing the sport to at least two dozen new members.
One of our newest and best ways to increase membership has been a Learn-to-Curl class held prior to the start of the season.
Jerry's contacts within WITC were instrumental in making this a collaborative effort between the school and RLCC and increasing overall exposure to the public.
This has been only a brief synopsis of Jerry's highlights and accomplishments.
Please join me in taking the time to congratulate and thank Jerry
for everything he
