The statement from Jerrold Oldani, president of the Oldani Group Inc., said the company used a "highly regarded subcontractor" to check civil and court records.Oldani
said some critical issues were missed based on how far back the records were available and which ones the company could access under employment law.
The statement laid part of the blame on the candidate.
"Ultimately, when key parties withhold, obfuscate or skew information, it makes our job more difficult and as a result we were not able to detect inconsistencies or potential problem areas," the statement said. The Oldani Group
, which charged the city $18,500 in professional fees and $6,500 for general expenses, said it will complete the search process, regardless of length, while foregoing the final third payment of its professional fee.It will also forego the payment if the city drops the company.
During a news conference Thursday, Conner blamed Oldani
for insufficient background checks.
...Conner has said Interim Chief Steve Chalmers, who was dropped from the search after Oldani discovered a domestic incident on his record from the 1980s, will not be considered for the position.
