Jennifer Deamud, communications and marketing manager for the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center located at GVSU, says this collection of resources has been available in the past, but the portal provides the community with one convenient website to navigate and access the specific assistance they need.
"Another purpose is for use internally," she says, noting that employees of these organizations now have a convenient way of looking up information and refering callers to an appropriate agency or resource. Among the organizations are the Annis Water Resources Institute, Career Services, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Family Business Alliance, Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC), Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, Sustainable Community Development Initiative and the Van Andel Global Trade Center. Jennifer is responsible for developing strategic partnerships, overseeing the accreditation process, writing proposals to sustain funding, monitoring of stakeholder reporting, and managing statewide communication strategies.Â SheÂ assists with long-range planning and program development, maintains key statewide relationships with stakeholders, partners, clients, and media.Â Jennifer is an accomplished communications professional with 20 years of communication, strategic planning, and media relations experience. Jennifer serves on numerous committees and boards, including the Grand Rapids Chamberâ€™s ATHENA steering committee, WGVU Engage Committee, Grand Rapids Opportunities for Womenâ€™s (GROWâ€™s) fund development committee.Â Jennifer also spends time volunteering with Mel Trotter Ministries and has spent several years volunteering with the Special Olympics. Jennifer enjoys giving back to her local community by volunteering at the Byron Center Schools, being aÂ Girl Scout Leader, and serving on the Byron Days Festival Board Jennifer has a Master of Public Administration, a Master of Science in Communications, and a Bachelor of Science in Advertising /Public Relations from Grand Valley State University. Â She is a graduate of Grand Valley State Universityâ€™s Leadership Program and the Huntington Bankâ€™s Rising Women Leaders Program. She is a certified business consultant. Jennifer has received the Grand Rapidâ€™s Business Journalâ€™s â€œ40 Under Fortyâ€� award and the National Association of Small Business Development Center (ASBDC) Michigan's Star Performer Award.
It shows that manufacturers are learning how to diversify," said Jennifer Deamud, associate state director for the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center and managing partner for the Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards, which includes the 50 Companies to Watch.
"These are second-stage companies," Deamud said, "and they've found the resources and capital here in Michigan not only to stay alive but to grow." Manufacturers are healthier, and state support from programs such as Pure Michigan Business Connect has helped, Deamud said.
Jennifer Deamud is associate state director of the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). She is responsible for creating and developing communication strategies for the state headquarters and the 11-region network. She assists with long-range planning and program development, manages Michigan Celebrates Small Business and maintains key statewide relationships with stakeholders, partners, clients and media. Jennifer is an accomplished communications professional with 18 years of communication, strategic planning and media relations experience. Jennifer serves on the ATHENA steering committee and Leadership Forum subcommittee, is co-chair of the INFORUM Small Business & Entrepreneurship Affinity Group. She is actively involved as a steering committee member of Huntington Bank's Rising Women Leaders Alumni group. She is a member of the WGVU Engage Committee and was part of the LZ Michigan Welcome Home Vietnam Vets. Jennifer also spends time volunteering with Mel Trotter Ministries and has spent several years volunteering with Special Olympics. Jennifer enjoys giving back to her local community by volunteering at the Byron Center Schools, being an AYSO soccer coach and mentoring young women. Jennifer is in the Master of Public Administration program at GVSU and has a Master of Science in Communications and a Bachelor of Science in Advertising and Public Relations from GVSU.
